Any trip through the toy aisle at your nearest retail store will reveal that there are many, many gifts that you could chose for the birthday boy who is hosting a fire truck party. Obviously, the best and most appropriate choice would be a play firetruck like the one to the right or below!
With firetrucks you can choose anything from a little hand held one that sits in your palm to something much much bigger. In fact, there are quite a few variations of the ride-along firetruck toy. These are the toys where you child gets to actually sit in and drive the firetruck! How neat is that! Check out the full selection here.
For a quieter activity after the party, he might enjoy books about fire trucks and firefighters. There is a wide selection of such books at your neighborhood book store or online at Amazon. Also, don't forget the Lego company makes a great birthday present for the birthday boy. Check out a few of those lego trucks here .
If you want to do something a little different than toys, games, and activities, you might select fire truck clothes or pajamas as a gift. In addition, there are sets of bedding (who doesn’t love fire truck sheets?) and décor that would be perfect gifts for this party theme.

Firetruck party favors are relatively easy as you can incorporate them into the party. A great way to start a party is to give each child their very own fire-fighter hat. They can be purchased for $0.99 at Celebrate Express here. Be sure to write the child's name on their hat so that you will know who's hat is who's.
If you have time then you can create your own party favors with candy, small toys and fun games. Put them into a small bag or a fire truck party favors box. However, if you don't have a lot of time then consider a pre-made fire truck party favors set. These party favors include a toy fire engine, firefighter badge sticker, a rolling pin with red handles, assorted color-dough and cookie cutter, crayons, Fire Trucks coloring poster and a sticker sheet.
Home-made Firetruck or Fire Fighters Party Favors
One activity that could be done at the party is to have the children use paint, and make collages of their handprints. Give each child a piece of poster paper titled “Fire fighters lend a hand”. Give them paper plates with red, yellow, and orange paint. Have them make a collage of their handprints with paint. If this is done early in the party, they can be dry before it is time to go home, and the partygoers can take them home with them as party favors. If they are not dry, send them to the partygoers when your child sends thank-you cards.
Here are a few more firetruck party favors to consider

Many games can be “hot” at a fire truck party. Consider the following list, and choose the ones that are most age-appropriate for your partygoers.
Coloring Pages: Coloring books and pages with fire trucks, fire fighters, and dalmations are a great “quiet” activity for this party. This can be a good starting activity; as each child arrives, he or she can choose a coloring page and a pack or crayons. This can keep the early arrivers busy while waiting for the rest of the attendees.
Pin the Badge on the Fire Hat: Before the party, draw a large fire hat on a piece of poster paper. Cut out some badges from card stock (or buy pre-made ones here), and cover them with aluminum foil. Push a pin through the badge and play “pin the badge”.
Firetruck Pinata: A pinata is a fun activity at any party. Simply get a firetruck pinata and hang it up and let all the kids get at least a few swings at the pinata. Then pull the strings to release the rewards!
Fire, Fire, Water! This is the fire truck-themed version of Duck, Duck, Goose.
Hot Potato: Seat children in a circle, and give a beanbag to one child. As you play music, the children will pass the beanbag around the circle. When the music stops, whoever is holding the beanbag is “out”. Play continues until there is only one child left who has NOT been caught holding the beanbag.
Fire Fighter Obstacle Course: Put together an obstacle course in the yard for each partygoer to navigate. Time each child as they put on fire fighter clothes, run over ropes, weave between cones, rescue a pet from on top of a slide, and then take off the fire fighter clothes. The fastest fire fighter is the winner.

The birthday cake is a huge part of any party let alone a Firetruck birthday party! Make sure your cake can be part of the show and all the guests will appreciate what you've put together!
Firetruck Birthday Cake
One of the best cake choices for this party to go all out, and buy a fire truck cake pan. Because the icing will be so dark, any type of cake mix is acceptable. Buy white icing, and color it fire-truck red with food coloring. Buy chocolate icing, and trim the truck and make the tires dark brown. You can use red, yellow, and orange M&M's to further decorate the truck.
Firetruck Cupcakes
Another option that you can consider is creating cupcakes instead. This is a very common new trend in birthday parties and there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, many people find it easier as you don't have the messy clean-up after cutting the cake! Simply bake the cupcakes as you normally would and put a firetruck cupcake topper of some sort.

The food at a fire truck party should be colorful and hot, hot, hot! Anything red, orange, or yellow would fit this theme well. Remember, that paper plates, napkins and cups will help keep things a little cleaner and help with your clean-up. Plus, if you buy fire truck paper plates and other tableware you'll be able to add to your decorations! Check out these firetruck party supplies at Celebrate Express.
For a light snack, choose nacho chips, salsa, and cheese dip. Get mild salsa for the young children and hot salsa for the adults. A fruit and cheese tray with theme-colored fruit – red and yellow apple slices, strawberries, oranges, and cheese cubes – make for a healthy snack for the partygoers.
The themed main course consists of Fire Chief Chili and Dalmation Dogs (hot dogs). With this combination, partygoers can choose chili, hot dogs, or chili dogs. Of course, have plenty of red, orange, yellow and hot for condiments – ketchup, mustard, onions, jalapenos, etc.
The beverage of choice for this party is Fire Hose Punch – a red punch. If you add a little sprite or tonic water you can add a little fizz to any juice!

For the fire truck party theme, the decorations should be red, yellow, and orange. Be sure to have lots of color, flare and brightness that all the kids will enjoy. Remember, to get their input on how THEY would decorate for the party!
The main table: There are several options for the covering on the main table. You could choose a plain colored tablecloth in red, yellow, or orange. Alternatively, you could use “dalmation-spotted” material or fire truck material as a table covering. There are also many fire truck-themed tableware's to consider. You'll want to have paper plates and napkins so why not make them part of the decorations. Check out firetruck paper plates, napkins and cups here. For the centerpieces, use either a fire hat or a stuffed dalmation. Tie red balloons and ribbons to the centerpiece for further decoration.
Fireman / Firetruck Photo Opportunity
A great decoration and party activity is the firetruck photo opportunity. Simply setup a photo-opportunity related to the Firetruck theme. You can buy a firetruck photo-op as picture on the right. Alternatively, you can create you own cardboard firetruck. If you can find a refrigerator cardboard box you can cut into a firetruck and paint it red. The final option is to have a Fireman Station where all the kids get to dress-up like a firefighter. Simply purchase a relatively inexpensive firefighter costume. With each child be sure to take their photo in the photo-op area. Then include that in the thank-you cards to all the kids!
Other decorations: First, put a sign at the end of your driveway that reads “Welcome to Firehouse #1”. Then, line construction cones and yellow tape from the end of the driveway to the party area. Cut red, yellow, and orange flames from tissue paper, and put them in the windows and around for decoration. The more red, yellow, orange and firetruck balloons and streamers that are around, the better!
